Thanks a lot this is great news. Let’s see who can be present. I am very much tempted, but current health issues makes it uncertain that I can commit to a long travel. I am helping with the organisation of the conference - the symposia are already taken but we could organise a session on importance of collections, etc if you have enough people from the BID. Dear BID Community, The GBIF Secretariat seeks proposals from consultants to research and draft a written study assessing the impact of the first phase of the Biodiversity Information for Development (BID) programme (2015-2019) in its target regions of sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific (ACP), using selected indicators recommended in a baseline study carried out in the early phase of the programme. Attendance at CBD COP14 meeting in Egypt

Dear BID colleagues We are currently making plans for a side event at the upcoming UN Biodiversity Conference (COP14) taking place in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt from 17-29 November. It will be an opportunity to showcase the many great results coming out of your projects, both in terms of published datasets and applications of data to support biodiversity policy objectives. Although we will present the overall progress and outcomes from the projects from the GBIF Secretariat standpoint, it will be great to include some contributions directly from project team members who are attending COP14. If anyone involved in the BID programme is planning to be in Sharm-el-Sheikh, or knows of colleagues from your institutions who will be there and may be able to present on your behalf, please let me know. We will be submitting the side event application before the 15th September deadline, and will let you know more details once it is confirmed. It would be nice to know as soon as possible about potential attendees/contributors, but there will also be the possibility to join at a later stage. Nominations are open for the Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) Executive Committee

Dear all If you are looking to get involved in biodiversity informatics at a global level and want to make a difference then why not join the enthusiastic team running Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG, www.tdwg.org<http://www.tdwg.org>) ? It concerns the further enhancement and development of the data standards and tools used among others by GBIF and the framework of the data publishing in the BID projects. Nominations are notably open this year for the African Representation of TDWG. Elections will happen in Fall and terms start as of January 2019 for two years. Positions are open for Deputy Chair, Secretary, Chair of the Functional Subcommittee for Communications & Outreach, Chair of the Functional Subcommittee for Funding & Partnerships, Africa Representative, Asian Representative and North American Representative. All terms are for two years, except for the Deputy Chair, who is expected to serve as Deputy Chair for two years and as Chair for a further two years.
