Deadline approaching: iDigBio symposium, Advances in Digitization Worldwide, SPHNC 2017

All, Just a quick note to alert you that iDigBio is hosting two symposia at next year's SPNHC (Society for Preservation of Natural History Collection) meeting in Denver (https://www.idigbio.org/content/spnhc-2017-call-abstracts). One of the symposia is titled "Advances in Digitization Worldwide", and iDigBio would be pleased to see the BID community to engage with SPNHC and submit abstracts for consideration for this or other symposia. There are a number of travel grants available (http://www.spnhc2017denver.org/travel-grants/), but note: the deadline for both travel grants and abstracts is January 13, 2017. Details of side event at UN Biodiversity Conference

Dear all I wanted to let you know that the BID programme generated great interest at the side event we organised on Tuesday at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Cancún, Mexico. It was well attended with a range of policy makers, experts and various international networks. There was real appreciation and excitement at the projects which I described in some detail, showing both the essential role being played by the support from around the GBIF community and examples of tangible results already evident including new data publishers registered in GBIF, new datasets online and new countries engaged in the network. Dear BID colleagues, As many of you are starting to publish BID-related datasets, we’ve taken the opportunity to add a page to the BID grantees website and align it with the programme’s specific data quality requirements: http://bid.gbif.org/en/community/data-quality We encourage you to attend to the details—they’re all genuinely important for ensuring the quality of your data—but for today, we’d like to call your attention to one required field in the metadata: projectID. This field is intended to provide a unique identifier for any project from which a dataset is derived. By entering your BID project number (e.g. BID-AF2015-00..) as its value, you can automatically link your datasets to your BID project page on GBIF.org. Help us share your work—please use your BID project number in the metadata’s projectID field!
