* modified is mapped to values with the wrong data type. * eventDate is mapped to values with the wrong data type. * individualCount is mapped to values with the wrong data type. Dear, Here, we have chosen the wrong data type on purpose. For the terms eventDate and modified, the reason is that we sometimes have very vague dates. (ex: Winter 1921) and for individualCount we would like to use "unknown". (As the field is empty in the original data) Would this create any problems during the indexing? Can we just leave it like that? In the standard it is not specified which type the data has to be... only "best practices". IPT behind firewall [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]

Hello, I've been trying to set up IPT from behind a corporate firewall, however it doesn't let me access the resources from http://gbrdsdev.gbif.org. I've tried putting a valid proxy in the proxy URL parameter (although I don't think that's what it's for) and also tried starting tomcat with standard JVM http.proxy parameters, which should work, but it looks like it's just ignoring them. Other apps on the same tomcat server do pick them up. I'd appreciate some guidance because I'm still using DiGIR and would like to switch but this is holding me back. Security update

Dear IPT users, This is an important message. IPT administrators should update their IPTs to the new version which has a security update and was released yesterday: https://code.google.com/p/gbif-providertoolkit/ The security update fixes critical vulnerabilities that have been discovered in the Apache Struts web framework, which the IPT uses. According to this article, these Struts vulnerabilities allow hackers to break into a server. It goes on to say that hackers are actively exploiting these vulnerabilities. Simple instructions on how to update your IPT are below. If you don't have time to update your IPT immediately, I would advise you to take it offline until you can. You can refer to this article, which describes how to determine if you have been attacked. Please email the IPT list directly for more help upgrading your installation. IPT 2.0.4 Test Mode to Production mode

Hello. I am looking at the version 2.0.4 of IPT and preparing for an upgrade from a 2.0.3 version. Everything looks OK to me. I have managed to customize the look and feel a little so the look fits the environment. Before I deploy there is still something I am unsure of. Switching from test mode to production mode ... With the previous version switching the "debug" value in the ipt.properties file was enough (I had problems doing so through the interface but doing it "by hand" worked fine). 2.0.4 seems to require something else linked with registration ??? in inc/menu.ftl [#if !cfg.devMode() && cfg.getRegistryType()=='PRODUCTION'] where does cfg.getRegistryType() come from ?? some property in the ipt.properties or rather the new registration.xml file ? I take it there must be some way to change this through the web interface but I would welcome the description of changes in the files themselves. Regards to all of you Michel K.

Hi IPT list, I am writing to inform everybody on the list about the existence of an IPT Workbook. Originally written by Burke and I as a companion for an IPT Experts Workshop in 2011, the workbook puts together a comprehensive set of practice problems for installing, configuring, and using the IPT to publish biodiversity datasets. The problems vary in their level of difficulty, but no matter how hard the problem is, helpful hints are provided to help guide the reader through them. Never before has there been a more fun way to learn how to master the IPT! In my opinion, if you can solve the entire workbook, you can consider yourself an IPT expert. Dear, IPT returns me an error while updating a resource. I think it s rather strange as it worked for all the updating of similar other query 's. I removed the connection to the db completely, retried and it gives me exactly the same error. I also totally removed the data and tried to update..; same error. Any ideas? Fwd: "Species Distribution" extension for Occurrence Core in IPT

Dear IPT community, Please see the request below for using the species distribution extension [1] with occurrence core [2]. This request comes from Colombia, who are setting up an IPT network in the country. I don't see any issue with this, but wanted to put this through the correct forum (this list) for any comments. Does anyone have any concerns they would like to raise? Please note, that extensions are considered immutable in concept, although we allow for minor editorial changes. Therefore this request would warrant a version increment of the distribution extension; reflected in the namespace. IPTs would therefore see 2 species distribution extensions (the second having the new version). The current version cannot be removed as datasets already exist using it, but rather would be marked as "Deprecated" in the description so new installations and updates would show this. We briefly discussed the DwC Tissue Extension and came up with a proposal for a quick-fix and a more substantial fix. The quick-fix is to create two new BasisOfRecord terms: TissueSubSample, DNAExtract (or some terms like that -- Tuco could provide more clarification on this too). Thus, theoretically we could override the dwc:Occurrence class to mean, for example, TissueSubSample the same way we do for Specimens and Observations. The bigger fix is to more fundamentally re-orient DwC around the notion of "Sample", involving adding/changing some properties although we didn't get into any specifics. P.s. Please let me know your availability for the last two weeks of September and first two weeks of October. There will be some scheduling issues, as there are task group members on the west and east coasts of the U.S., Europe and Australia. To this end I am writing to you to ask if you would be interested in participating in a small working group at TDWG in Beijing this year. At this stage my plan would be to identify relevant fields for inclusion in the extension, using ABCDDNA as a reference. If sufficient progress is made then we would submit the extension for ratification by TDWG (is that how its done John?) The GGBN will use whatever comes out of the group to move towards having a suitable DwC based schema for data sharing. So please let me know if you are willing to participate in the task group and/or if there is anyone else you feel would be beneficial to have involved. How much time do you think we will need? I have been thinking that a day will be needed, so we could make that consist of either one full day or two half days. Im also thinking that during the week will be the best time for this.
