Introduction to the Biodiversity Atlas Austria

Dear Living Atlases-Community! We, the Biodiversity Hub Austria, are happy to announce that work has begun to implement the ALA infrastructure in Austria to build up a national biodiversity database – the Biodiversity Atlas Austria. Some of you may have already heard this or have already been contacted by us for initial questions and help. We would like to take this opportunity now to introduce us and the project via the ALA mailing list. The set up of the Biodiversity Atlas Austria is part of a bigger state government funded project building up a national stakeholder network on biodiversity and ecosystem services for Austria – the Biodiversity Network Austria (www.biodiversityaustria.at, only in German at the moment). Our Biodiversity Hub-Team consists of Gerald Steiner (project lead), Andrea Höltl (project co-lead), Georg Neubauer (database programmer) and me, Tanja Lumetsberger (research assistant database and network). We form the coordination office for the biodiversity network and are located at the Danube University Krems in Lower Austria, which is located nearby Vienna. We have just started with the implementation, so we can’t provide you with any visual output at the moment but we will definitely message again as soon as the Biodiversity Atlas Austria is online – which is anticipated to be early next year. The web address will be www.biodiversityatlas.at (not working at the moment). I am sure a couple of questions will occur during the set up and it would be great if we could get back to the Living Atlases-Community with our questions (e.g. via the hip chat) but hopefully we can implement most of it without asking you too much. We are looking forward to be part of the Living Atlases-Community! Dear all, The GBIF Brazilian node has also been customizing the ALA platform in recent months and so we made the decision to join and participate in the ALA community, joining the countries that have decided not only to share technologies but solutions, experiences and support. Hello Comunity, wich IDE should i use to edit the pages? i was reading that i have to use grails, i follow some steps I fork to my github generic-hub, and install grail then try to run grails but get this error.

Admin Interface

Hello Comunity. I finally get to the install the ALA-DEMO, i was trying some pages but i dontk now how to use, for example the Admin Interface when i clik in Admin Tools or Add a new collection or data resource, the page stay white. Is there something else that i need to do, to add a new collection or data resource?

Hello, my name is Hector, Iam from Guatemala. We want to implement the ALA Portal, but I have some questions. I have already try to do the installation but with no good results. I already have an ubuntu installed, so with this information wich link should I use This https://github.com/AtlasOfLivingAustralia/ala-install Or this https://github.com/AtlasOfLivingAustralia/documentation/wiki/Installation I was reading the documentation but I dont get right if I have to use a VM with my ubuntu? Follow-ups of the Feb ALA workshop in Madrid

Hello fellow Madrid workshop attendees, (Posted to ALA mailing list, for those who didn’t meet us in the workshop but may be interested in joining.) I hope all is well on your side since we explored ALA stack together in February. We, several of us are following up on the action points from the workshop to review and clean-up the exercises and documentation that Dave set up for us, so that it’s easier for new comers to get the stack up and running. Here's our plan: 1) We will Revisit the ansible scripts, document “bumps” we meet and try to solve it. 2) We will create issues tickets on the documentation GitHub repo[1], and we will group this wave of actions in a “project” using Github project management[2]. 3) When we all have our issues shared and listed, we’ll ask/coordinate with ALA or GBIF support to discuss ways to solve them or to update the documentation systematically. If you would like to help us then please let us know your GitHub handle and we'll know who’s who and make sure you have proper access to the documentation and issues. Having an ALA portal is good (very good indeed), but having you very own customized ALA portal is better. In order to achieve this, the wiki section of the month can help. This page is divided is several parts, here are some of them: * Overview : basic steps for styling you generic-hub application; most of them are explained/detailed on the following parts. * Grails tag : this part lists tags specific to Grails with explanations on how to use it. * Bootstrap 3 : tips : instructions and recommandations if you want to add the module Bootstrap 3 in your application * Custom internationalisation (i18n) : information on the internationalisation aspect; it's a link to another page of the wiki (Internationalization (i18n)) * Examples : some examples of web apps already customized; you can use them as an inspiration for your own installation. TDWG2018 symposium on integrating data & phylogenies, New Zealand

Dear Colleague, I am organizing a symposium titled “Linking biodiversity data through phylogenetic knowledge” at the Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) conference, August 25 - September 2, 2018, Dunedin, New Zealand. This meeting will be held jointly for the first time with the annual meeting of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC). I would also appreciate it if you could forward this email to your colleagues or students. Thanks! We will be able to provide a limited amount of *funding* to offset expenses where needed and on a competitive basis.
