Dear all, We would like to schedule a GBIF hosted portals community call. We have some new teams joining this group and would like to share some of the recent progress and features. We will invite all of you to share some updates: * For those who have not yet launched, we would welcome an update on plans and progress, and especially feedback on anything that is blocking you from going live. * For those who have launched, we would welcome any tips on how you have been promoting your portal, and any feedback you have received from your users. * And from all of you, we would like to invite ideas on which feature you would like to see developed next. Map options

Hi We just added more map options to your websites. It is now possible to change map projections and change base maps. Your sites default to showing only the Mercator projection. Just as it was before. But it can now be configured to * Show Mercator, Plate Caree, Arctic and Antarctic (same projections as on GBIF.org) * A selection of differently styled base maps * Language support (e.g. Spanish or Japanese base maps) * Add satellite tiles and terrain tiles from Maptiler (requires you to get a free access key) You can read more here: Documentation: https://hp-theme.gbif-staging.org/data-exploration-config#map-options Satellite and terrain maps: https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/229 Antarctic map as default: https://hp-antarctic.gbif-staging.org/occurrence/search/?view=MAP Feel free to reach out if you want to add more map types to your site, but aren’t sure how to go about it. Dear all, We are happy to have recently opened GBIF's hosted portals programme<https://www.gbif.org/news/5D3ijLXMbpiZDBj0y0z1J/gbif-launches-hosted-portal…>. This builds on the success of the pilot phase - so thank you again for all your contributions! We have already received a few new applications, and we know that work is ongoing for several pilot phase teams. We'd like to have a hosted portals community call to catch up on progress and introduce the new teams. From here on, we will aim to hold these community calls about every quarter so that we can stay connected and get inspired by what others are working on. Global Nodes Meeting We have been very busy with the virtual Global Nodes Meeting held last week. This received interest and support from the broader nodes community, who were already starting to consider how we can take this work further beyond the pilot phase. Privacy policy and terms of service We have been following up with legal advisors to develop these and hope to have something ready to circulate to you all soon. You can track how we plan to implement the privacy policy in this issue<https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/16>. First portals ready to launch We are working with the teams for the Pacific Biodiversity Information Portal<https://hp-sprep.gbif-staging.org/> and Natural History Museum Rotterdam<https://hp-nhm-rotterdam.gbif-staging.org/> to get ready to launch in the coming weeks. This will represent an important milestone in our pilot phase and we hope that many more of your portals will reach this stage in the coming months. New Zealand joining the group We received an expression of interest from the recently appointed New Zealand node to join the pilot phase, identifying this as the right time to try to expand national activity. This was approved and we are happy to have one more participant in the pilot phase! Lower capacity over the Copenhagen summer Many of us will be taking holidays over the Copenhagen summer months (July and early August) so please be prepared for slower response times in this period.
