Proposing Changes to Darwin Core

Dear All, I thought I'd introduce you to an initiative I've started to make changes to the Darwin Core Standard. This seems to be relevant to the Task Group and something we could point to as a concrete outcome. For a long time I have been bothered by the definition and suggested vocabulary for the establishmentMeans field in Darwin Core ( http://rs.tdwg.org/dwc/terms/). It doesn't seem fit for purpose and conflates various concepts. For this reason I've drafted a proposal for the TDWG organisation to change Darwin Core. This involved adding a new term "origin"; changing the definition of occurenceStatus and changing the controlled vocabulary of establishmentMeans. You can read the proposal on GitHub (https://github.com/qgroom/DwC_Proposal.git), but I've also attached a version here. I really welcome your comments and I'd be happy if you want to co-propose it with me. Action time for the GBIF task group members: send your travel authorisarion forms asap.

Dear all, Apologies for the delay in my replies caused by my travels. Thanks to collaborative support from GEO BON, our task group meeting in Leipzig will be considered a closed satellite event for the GEO BON conference and will take place at iDIV<https://www.google.de/maps/place/German+Centre+for+Integrative+Biodiversity…>. Technically, it means that we will have the room for the meeting and now you need to send your travel authorization form to GBIF. iDiv will send more info re: logistics to me later. Please carefully read the GBIF travel guidelines: http://links.gbif.org/travel_guidelines.pdf The procedure is that you 1) send the travel authorization form to GBIF, as described in the guidelines 2) get confirmation from GBIF (note today is public holiday in Denmark, so you will have a reply next week), 3) buy your ticket 4) claim travel refund after the meeting as described in the guidelines. We have agreed that meeting is on 9-11 July, so our official travel dates are 8 and 12 July. You can also try to arrive on 9 July morning or leave on 11 July in the evening if that is preferred by you. Note, if you plan to come before the 8th and leave after 12th, GBIF will reimburse the costs of the ticket up to the price of the travel on original travel dates - so you need to know this price anyway, and the hotel is refunded for 8-12 July. Please send you travel forms to travel(a)gbif.org<mailto:travel@gbif.org> cc me, and after you get confirmations and buy tickets, I would also like to have flight numbers, dates and times of your plane tickets copied to me when you have those. ACCOMODATION IDEAS Previously I stayed and plan to stay at http://www.balancehotel-leipzig.de/, maybe it would be nice to be together. If this won't work, and since we are the satellite event to GEO BON, we can use their hotels and the booking code http://conf2016.geobon.org/information/accomodation/, and Melodie is planning to stay in one of those, so we can, too when we know what is it. Let's do the hotel booking after you have tickets. July meeting dates fixed, minutes and next call

Hello all, JULY DATES, LEIPZIG Gregory just confirmed the dates for the meeting, so we all are happy to have the meeting from 9 July 12:00 SAT till 11 July 17:00 MON in Leipzig. VENUE, HOTELS I am looking for the meeting rooms and suitable hotel options. Melodie, Quentin, please let me know where are you staying, if you know already. One option that we will use the GEO BON conference hotels http://conf2016.geobon.org/information/accomodation/. This is not set yet. PLANE TICKETS, FORM You can now send your travel authorization forms to GBIF as described at http://links.gbif.org/travel_guidelines.pdf , note that your travel will be approved as soon as we have the meeting venue booked and the range of hotels identified. Note that you need to have your form approved before you buy the plane ticket, the original travel dates are 8 July to and 12 July from. Hello all, Apologies for the delay in tidying up the minutes, will do asap after solving some health issues in the family. The key moment here that we need to capture both your personal expert opinions and experiences, but also the views of IAS research community. In 2015, these community opinions were collected through surveys bringing you data for the report, and also through public consulation after the report draft is published online. The plan is to have 2h Skype teleconferences at least once a month, and to meet in person twice, each time for three full days.
