GBIF outage: Monday 1st December

GBIF API deploy, 12th June

Dear GBIF API users, A new API will be deployed later today. Please expect a short downtime in the central European afternoon, we try to keep it minimal. This is a minor updated and all URLs in the new version will remain the same, keeping v0.9. New features included are improved data processing, multimedia support for occurrences and new occurrence search filters based on media type and processing issues. Checklist bank, query for certain checklist

Hi GBIF team, on your website (dev.gbif.org/wiki/display/POR/Webservice+API) I've found information that one can only do a name usage match to the GBIF Backbone Taxonomy. In theory one could also do it against the Catalogue of Life or other checklists, but this is currently unimplemented. This implementation would be very useful for GGBN (and I guess a lot of other projects too). It would be great to use this standard pipeline to send queries to different checklist instead of querying different web services, despite of the fact that most of the checklists in your repository are not available via web services yet. Can you say something about the priority for this implementation or when you will realize it? Best, Gabi

Help with GBIF API

Hello, I'm development a tool for data quality and I'm using the GBIF API to validate scientific names. I want to know if you have a documentation about the JSON response. I have any questions: 1- What the possibles values to matchType attribute? 2- When the result is exact, always return a single dataset? And when the result isn't exact, the attribute "alternatives" return the datasets that better matche with the search term? 3- What kind of URL I should use when the name query has space and special caracteres, for example, ().,& ? Mapping API

Hi guys, I'm currently playing with the GBIF API. Using the mapping Api, I can apply 'Type' parameter which can be either a TAXON, DATASET, COUNTRY or PUBLISHER. However, it seems not possible to add two parameters together , for instance If I want to get a map of a taxon (eg: "Canis Lupus") which belongs to one particular dataset. I am wrong ? If not, does that feature will be brought with api v2 ? Remove/filter by data from botanical gardens?

Hello, Someone brought up recently whether or not they could exclude observations from botanical gardens in GBIF occurrence searches. I think they meant just occurrences from within actual gardens, not observations from more natural areas in a database provided by a botanical garden. Is something like this already flagged as an issue in the occurrence issue enum? I didn't see it myself. I guess one could find the data providers that are botanical gardens and exclude those if they are in the search results. Thanks for any guidance. Cheers, Scott Chamberlain

Why is the downloads interface different than other occurrence endpoints?

Hi! I'm curious why the occurrence/download/ endpoint has a different interface than the other occurrence endpoints (occurrence/search). I ask because I work on the R client rgbif, and it would be nice to provide the same exact interface to users whether they are getting JSON data or spinning up a download. However, the query interfaces are quite different. This isn't a big deal, as I can make both occurrence/download and occurrence/search endpoints as similar as possible for users despite them being different internally. Thanks! Scott Chamberlain
