Dear all

I take the opportunity to also introduce myself. I am s currently Liaison Officer and official contact point for the European Commission at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren Belgium. Since 2016 I am also sub-contractor of the Botanic Garden Meise to act as Liaison Office. Currently.  Together with Larissa Smirnova, we wrote recently an User Guide on sample based-data for GBIF as sub-contractor. Until end 2013 I was head of the Biodiversity Information and Cyber-taxonomy services of the museum, where I started in 2005 as responsible for external relations and project management.
My main domain of expertise is fund raising and management of externally funded projects. I also have a long term experience in Biodiversity Information and especially in the domain of data standards and associated applications. Scientific expertise is in numerical ecology and statistical modelling and data analysis.

I holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from University of Namur in Belgium (2002) with topic “Distribution of fish populations in Reservoir lakes”. In 1999 I received a Diploma of Specialisation (DEA) in Freshwater Ecology and have a License in Biological Sciences from the University of Namur in Paleo-ecology (Study of fossil coral reef in the stone quarry of Tailfer, Belgium).
From 1996 to 1997 I was scientist at the University of Namur and responsible for the study of freshwater fish populations in the Walloon Region. From 2002 to 2005 I set up the Belgian Biodiversity Information Facility (Be-BIF), of which she was the manager,  at the Free University of Brussels with a project of the Belgian Science Policy Office.  Since 2004, I serve regularly as an independent expert for the European Commission.

From 2009 to 2015 I was General Secretary of the Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG). Currently I am the European Representative and Chair of the Time and Place Committee.
From 2010 to 2016  I was member of the executive Committee of CETAF (Consortium of European Taxonomic Facilities, having had the position of Executive Secretary in the last 4 years. From 2012 onwards I sit in the Global Team of the Catalog of Life.  I am in the governing board of the Royal Belgian Zoology Society of which she has been president for (2007 to 2008 member since 1999. I am  member since 1997 of the Belgian Committee of International Water Association (B-IWA) and currently Vice chair of their governing board. From 2002 to 2005 I was a member of the Belgian Delegation of the GBIF Governing Board, the Nodes Committee and the GBIF DADI (Data Access and Data Integration) subcommittee.

I am looking forward to help at various levels as a mentor for the GBIF BID projects and to collaborate with you all. Notably in networking, strategic planning and mobilizing of additional funds and projects for example.

Je suis Sékou MAGASSOUBA, Ph.D, Enseignant Chercheur, Directeur Général Adjoint de l’Herbier National de Guinée(HNG), Université Gamal Abdel Nasser de Conakry(UGANC). Je suis Coordinateur du projet «  Vers une liste rouge des plantes globalement menacées de la Guinée », un Projet National de BID.
Je suis un membre du groupe de Node GBIF pour la Guinée qui publiera les données de ce projet à travers le portail GBIF. Je coordonne la collecte de données pour ce projet et mon institution abritera la base de données nationale des plantes menacées.
Ma principale motivation pour ce projet est la protection des espèces indigènes et endémiques de la Guinée pour les générations futures et de protéger le patrimoine national de la Guinée.
Par la diversité des ses paysages, la Guinée est considérée comme un regroupement géomorphologique et floristique de l’Afrique Sud Saharienne. Chacune des ses quatre régions naturelles entretient un micro climat spécifique qui favorise la croissance et le développement d’une flore et d’une végétation toutes particulières, très riches en espèces végétales dont on a une faible connaissance.
Grâce à ce projet, nous espérons améliorer la connaissance du public  sur les plantes indigènes et  leur conservation. Renforcer  la capacité des chercheurs aux normes pour la collecte des données dans le processus d’évaluation de la liste rouge de l’UICN et sa publication ultérieure.

J'ai l'expérience avec les bases de données, en particulier la base de données RIHA (Réseau Informatique des Herbiers Africains) actuellement utilisé pour le stockage des données de nos collections d'herbiers.
Je suis habitué à travailler avec le GPS pendant le travail de terrain et le transfert de ces coordonnées dans un programme de cartographie.
J'utilise régulièrement les programmes Microsoft Office et a une formation de base dans l'utilisation des feuilles de calcul Excel.
J'utilise fréquemment Internet pour les travaux de recherche, trouver les coordonnées géographiques à l'aide de Google Earth ou gazetiers.
J'ai une bonne maîtrise de la langue française comme cela est la langue officielle de mon pays et une compréhension de base de l'anglais.

Je suis heureux d’appartenir à ce groupe de communauté pour apprendre d’avantage et partager leurs expériences en informatique de la biodiversité.
