Dear friends, We are writing to let you know that the GBIF Asia Regional Support Team is organizing the final round this year of the Virtual Data Mobilization Workshop for Asia in December. As we continue to support biodiversity data publishing activities in the region, we find it invaluable to offer structured courses that enable more data publishers to understand methods and tools for sharing their biodiversity data with global users. This would be a great opportunity for biodiversity research and policy institutions to learn about project planning, data capture, data management and data publication, focusing on GBIF tools and infrastructure. Dear friends of the GBIF Asia community, Our team members have collaborated with TaiBIF to host a session "Overcoming Barriers to Biodiversity Data Sharing and Use in Asia: Success Stories and Lesson Learned" (Session ID: 6799127) at Living Data 2025 on 21-24 October in Columbia. This is a hybrid session, and we would like to highlight the efforts made in Asia. If you have any stories and experiences to share, please don't hesitate to submit abstracts to our session. Also, the conference is hosted by GEO-BON, GBIF, OBIS, and TDWG this time. It would be a great opportunity to make your achievements more visible, learn more about the latest informatics technology, and communicate with great people around the world! Dear friends in Asia, As the end of 2024 is approaching, we want to thank you all for joining us regularly, occasionally, casually, surprisingly, friendly, and joyfully for the whole year. We’ve learned a lot from our discussions and appreciate your participation. We will suspend our weekly meet-up until opening the room again on the 9th of January in the new year. Please remember to join us. Also, we are holding a Virtual Data Mobilization Workshop in February for the first time in the last few years. Dear friends of GBIF community, Following the first talk ‘An Introduction to the Global Registry of Scientific Collections (GRSciColl)’ on 14th November, the second talk we have for this Thursday (28 November) is entitled ‘Initiatives to the Global Representation of Scientific Collection’. This is also a part of the series presentations we made at the SPNHC-TDWG Conference 2024 in Okinawa earlier in September. After the introductory presentation on GRSciColl, this week, we will be talking about the efforts GBIF is making together with its regional support teams in improving the access to collection information mostly from the underrepresented regions.
