IAS conferences 2023?
Hello task group!
Thanks for agreeing to remain accessible after your term. There are a few IAS related items in GBIF work programme 2023, including IPBES; IUCN, GRIIS mentions. https://docs.gbif.org/2023-work-programme/en/
I am building a overview of GBIF relevant conferences for 2023, theme by theme. Could you please let me know your versions of the key global or regional IAS events in 2023, incl. your role and attendance plans please?
With pencil & calendar,
Thanks Dmitry
Hi Dmitry, the main one that comes to mind for 2023 is EMAPI (https://emapi2023.com/), Pucón, Chile, October 2023. It looks like an amazing location, but I doubt I will go. There is ICBI2023 in New Zealand ( https://bioheritage.nz/4th-international-congress-on-biological-invasions-ic...). Again, it is a long way to go, but due to New Zealand's leadership in IAS management it would be interesting.
TBPH: Most of my invasive species talks are done at non-invasive species conferences, because my work has a lot of overlaps.
Regards Quentin

Thanks, added both the GBIF S science outreach planner, but I agree low chance for direct attendance. Maybe Melodie will go to one or both? WE can also check with GBIF Ambassadors https://www.gbif.org/article/1ye7qAa9Z2HVSn85bfSmLP/who-are-the-gbif-biodive..., we have two matching “invas*”

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the link, and sorry for the late reaction. This is now added to our conferences "menu" and attendance plans are naturally limited by cost, distance and staff. We have realized earlier that we will never be able get good representation of GBIF in all relevant meeting with GBIF Secretariat efforts (head count: 33), not even with Nodes, delegations and committees (about 1000, with only a minority focusing on science relevance line). To compensate, we created and main a group of vounteers who present GBIF at the conference of their expertise. We can help with recent slides, and there is zero reporting - only an tional feedback form. I would love to see you and the rest of the invasive task group as Biodiversity Open Data Ambassadors: https://www.gbif.org/composition/6iHKXo8pUyRPJ2Ut0683Z8/ambassadors - welcome to join!
Writing this specificially in a hope that we can ask our IAS task group friends to represent GBIF and present about GBIF in the IAS conferences in 2023. Melodie mentioned today in the GBIF Science committee call that IPBES IAS assessment will be released in September 2023, and IAS topics will remain high on GBIF agenda for science and policy.
Thanks in advance, Dmitry
