We are recruiting a Marine Data Analyst & GIS Support Officer [https://gallery.mailchimp.com/98d743e3acbf4e3b58a1934cb/images/58a3290b-164f...] The EMODnet Secretariat, based in Ostend (Belgium), seeks to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated junior marine data expert with knowledge of geospatial data handling to support the ongoing work of the EMODnet Secretariat to improve the availability and accessibility of marine data in Europe and support the technical development of the European Atlas of the Seas. The closing date for applications is 11 March 2019 at 12:00 CET. Interviews for shortlisted candidates are scheduled to take place on Monday 18 and/or 19 March 2019.

EMODnet presents at the 25th Session of the IODE Committee

From 18 until 22 February 2019, representatives from oceanographic data centres and major marine data initiatives worldwide gathered at the 25th Session of UNESCO's International Data and Information Exchange (IODE) Committee in Tokyo (Japan) to discuss progress and future plans of the IODE Programme, and the contribution of Europe and other regions. The IODE programme was established in 1961 to enhance marine research, exploitation and development, by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between participating Member States, and by meeting the needs of users for data and information products.
Jan-Bart Calewaert, Head of the EMODnet Secretariat, participated in the Conference, giving an overview of the progress on marine data and information sharing efforts made in Europe over the last few years. Several other members of EMODnet partner organisations also participated to the IODE meeting and conference, either as country representatives from Europe or as representatives from relevant organisations such as SeaDataNet and JCOMM.

The European contribution is significant with EMODnet playing a pivotal role: around 20 million (out of 50M) of these records are provided by EMODnet Biology, with source data collected by many data providers across Europe.
