Coming soon! EMODnet Vessel density map

Hello,

I thought you might find the new EMODnet vessel density data potentially useful for analyses of the alien and invasive species, at least in Europe.

Many thanks.

Regards,

Dmitry Schigel

EMODnet presents at the 25th Session of the IODE Committee

From 18 until 22 February 2019, representatives from oceanographic data centres and major marine data initiatives worldwide gathered at the 25th Session of UNESCO’s International Data and Information Exchange (IODE) Committee in Tokyo (Japan) to discuss progress and future plans of the IODE Programme, and the contribution of Europe and other regions. The IODE programme was established in 1961 to enhance marine research, exploitation and development, by facilitating the exchange of oceanographic data and information between participating Member States, and by meeting the needs of users for data and information products.

Jan-Bart Calewaert, Head of the EMODnet Secretariat, participated in the Conference, giving an overview of the progress on marine data and information sharing efforts made in Europe over the last few years. Several other members of EMODnet partner organisations also participated to the IODE meeting and conference, either as country representatives from Europe or as representatives from relevant organisations such as SeaDataNet and JCOMM.

EMODnet Associated Partnership Scheme

We are pleased to welcome four new Associated Partners since November 2018: RPS Ocean Science, Lange Research Aircraft GmbH, Polytechnic University of Catalonia/OBSEA and IST/MARETEC. EMODnet established the Associated Partnership Scheme to enable interested stakeholders to contribute and fully benefit from the network’s broad range of tools and activities. The application procedure is straightforward, free of charge and provides many advantages for both associated partners and the network itself.

Use case: EMODnet Biology contributing to marine global assessments

The Ocean Biogeographic Information System (OBIS) is now the world’s most comprehensive database on the diversity, distribution, and abundance of life in the ocean. The European contribution is significant with EMODnet playing a pivotal role: around 20 million (out of 50M) of these records are provided by EMODnet Biology, with source data collected by many data providers across Europe.
