Dear Mélianie, Thank you, I signed up, just a small note - the mail below states 15:00-15:30 but calendar registration invite states 15-16:30, I guess that's the right timeslot? Please register for the call here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/5RrQ-CtjTtidtmYywtdIzg<https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/5RrQ-CtjTtidtmYywtdIzg> We would also like to update you on the work towards aligning GBIF.org and Hosted Portals and request your feedback before our call. As we discussed at the end of last year, Morten and colleagues have been rewriting and repackaging the Hosted Portal code base (see below). We have made these changes to allow GBIF.org to reuse the same code. This is a significant improvement as it allows us to maintain a single code base going forward, simplifying future updates, and enhancing the experience for everyone. We have now ported everyone's UAT sites (user acceptance test sites) to the new code base. If you're not familiar with your UAT site, you can view it by replacing "something.hp.gbif-staging.org" with "something.hp.gbif-uat.org". This will show you how your site will look after the migration to the new code. We ask for your help in reviewing your UAT site to ensure that nothing has been broken during the migration. If you find any issues, please do let Morten know so they can be fixed - ideally before the next meeting. You might have noticed a commit referencing this issue https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/302<https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/302> Please remember that the goal of this code migration is not to add new features or even fix existing bugs. It is to replicate what we have in the same or similar way. This should give you a sense of the level of feedback we are looking for at this stage. Please also note this list of issues that we are currently aware of and addressing: https://github.com/gbif/gbif-web/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3A%22HP%20parity%22<https://github.com/gbif/gbif-web/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20label%3A%22HP%20parity%22> Looking forward to meeting with you soon! Best Melianie, Morten, Daniel, and Tim From: Mélianie Raymond Sent: 15 November 2024 13:59 To: hosted-portals@lists.gbif.org<mailto:hosted-portals@lists.gbif.org> Subject: Hosted portals community call summary Dear all, It was great to connect with many of you yesterday. Here is a summary of what was discussed: 1. Update on Aligning GBIF.org and Hosted Portals (shared by Morten) * Why: GBIF.org is aging software (~9yrs old) and there is an increasing maintenance burden. We are aligning the GBIF.org software around the hosted portal stack. We are aiming for consistency in data exploration between GBIF.org and HPs. In future, features can be brought to both GBIF.org and the HPs at the same time. We hope for faster development as a result of having fewer codebases. * Impact: We plan to update the staging environments in early 2025. Morten will inform each hosted portal team as we approach this stage. Some pages will look a bit different, but familiar. The configuration format (JSON) and some HTML elements will change, and Morten will handle these updates. Custom styles may need slight adjustments. * Next steps: Once the staging updates are ready, Morten will announce this by email and arrange the next community call. Your feedback for improvements will be encouraged. * Note for Living Norway and Vermont Portals: There may be some specific challenges; Morten will contact you directly. 1. Hosted Portals Communication Campaign (from Kyle) * Plan: Once the GBIF communications team has reviewed its proposals within the Secretariat, they will work with site owners on weekly features that promote individual hosted portals (and, more generally, the hosted portal programme) through via its social media and news channels. * How you can help: Comms staff will be in touch in the coming weeks to secure or confirm key details (site name, institutional host, social media handles, etc.). If there are specific dates for which it would be helpful to have your hosted portal in the spotlight, please do reach out to kcopas@gbif.org<mailto:kcopas@gbif.org> or communication@gbif.org<mailto:communication@gbif.org> to let us know. Also, if you have any events coming up during which you could help presenting GBIF's hosted portal programme, we would be happy to support you with materials (slides, printed materials, etc.). 1. Automated mailing of news item updates on hosted portals (from Carole) * Carole Sinou (legumes portal) is exploring automatic mailing of news updates to users. If you have experience with this, please reach out to Carole. 1. Next community call * Future meetings will have a registration link so you can easily add them to your calendar. Our next call is planned for early 2025. Thanks again for a nice meeting.
