Dear all,

We are now halfway through our first 6-week period in the hosted portals pilot phase and starting to see some great progress.

We will aim to have our next group call in the week of 1 March. Please indicate your availability using this doodle poll.

Focus for this first 6-week period

As we explained during our group call, the goal for these first 6 weeks is that you are all able to edit and add your content to the template portals we set up for you, including:

-          Text pages

-          Configuring your menu structure

-          Images

-          Branding

-          Translations when needed

As you progress with this, we are collecting bug and feature requests related to the website and content building. You are also welcome to log issues related to the occurrence explorer, but it is not the main focus at this stage.

Inspiration

If you need inspiration for how to customize individual pages, then you can look at the theme website. E.g.

Some of you are already very active creating your menu structures, filling in pages, translating content and adding pictures. This is great to see and please let me know if I can be of any help or if you would like any feedback on your content. You can all view the changes on some of the more active portals at this stage here:

-          Canadian Biodiversity Information Facility (CBIF)

-          Legume Data Portal

-          Pacific Global Biodiversity Information Facility

If you need help

Your feedback is really important in this pilot phase. If you are having difficulties getting started, or need any help, I will gladly take calls with individuals as needed – please contact me on mhoefft@gbif.org if you would like a one-to-one session. I'm happy to help guide you through the options.

In the next 6-week period

In the next period, we'll focus on the issues you have identified already while creating your websites. After that we expect to turn our attention to the data sections and explore enhancements to that which would suit you best.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks,

Morten
