Thanks Dmitry,

About the numbers

I had a Skype chat with Colin Clubbe and Rosemary Newton (Kew) about this section and wanted some clarification on those numbers. They state that their focus is on alien plants in natural or semi-natural areas and that they sourced their lists from a few global sources, CABI ISC, GISD and others- CABI ISC providing over 80% of ‘invasive’ plant names. They clarified they did not classify their plant lists- and they include cultivated plants, as well as weeds of agricultural lands as well as alien species in natural and semi-natural areas.

I have provided them our GRIIS list and they have committed to assist with any cleaning up as well as providing data from the UKOTs and review of Plantae from those lists.

Regards

Shyama

Hello,

Here comes a useful link, the report includes a section on almost 5K IA plant species, via Siro Masinde.

Is it ok I am sending links and refs like that? They can easily get lost and forgotten, and I’d like to make sure you have all possible latest resources.

Many thanks.

Best regards,

Dmitry Schigel

Dear all,

This may be of interest to you if you have not seen it already: https://stateoftheworldsplants.com/

An 84 page synthesis of data and information on the state of the worlds plants; but also very well summarised with interactive graphics on the cover webpage. GBIF is cited as a useful data resource in carrying out global extinction risk and threat assessments. There is also a  chapter on invasive alien plant species.
